Biwa is a common plant found in Japanese gardens and its fruits are edible and popular for Jam. It has long been used as an herbal remedy for eczema and fatigue. Biwanoha means Biwa leaves because the leaves are used for dyeing. 

Dyeing method
Aluminum mordant dyeing produces a yellowish reddish brown color, while iron mordant dyeing produces a reddish-brown color. For a reddish color, let the dye liquid stand for 1 to 2 days before dyeing. Please boil the dye in boiling water for 15 minutes two times.
