Summary
Cochineal is a bug that is a kind of Coccoidea collected mainly in Mexico and other areas of South America. In Mexico especially Oaxaca City, native people have used it as red and purple dye from ancient eras. The body is about 2mm long and reddish brown in color. It is currently used for food coloring.
