Pre-processes of botanical dyeing for cotton and linen

Many botanical dyes can dye silk or wool clothes beautifully, but not so well on cotton and linen. This is because botanical dyes tend to bond with animal proteins that are contained in silk and wool not in cotton or linen.

So, we have used a method called under-dye, which pre-processes the fabric before dyeing using Tannic acid or our special agent ZB. You can use Soy juice instead of them, but we recommend using Tannic acid or ZB because Soy juice sometimes makes wrinkles in the clothes.

(A) Using Tannic acid
・Prepare tannic acid at 5% of the weight of the cloth
・Put the cloth into hot water (70℃) with Tannic acid
・Boil the cloth for 30 min.

(B) Using ZB
・Amount used is 5% of the weight of the item to be dyed
・Add to warm water (50°C) enough to fully soak the cloth
・Process for 20-30 minutes before dyeing
