Shibori workshop
Summary
Duration: 3 hours (AM/PM)
Price: 14,000 JPY / person
Teacher: Sae Kaneko
Do you know Shibori? It is a technique in which the cloth is partially sewn, tied, or folded to prevent dyeing, and the fabric is then soaked into the dye liquid such as indigo vat. Since the tied part is not dyed, the pattern remains in that part. This technique, sometimes called “tie-dye,” is particularly casual and unique.
It has been developed in Japan since the Edo period (1603-1868) and is known for its exquisite techniques, such as “Kyo-kanoko” in Kyoto. One famous technique is “Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori,” which is a traditional craft of Aichi Prefecture and developed under the protection of the Owari Clan 200-300 years ago. Even today, the tradition continues, incorporating new materials and techniques.
This workshop will let you know the basic skills of 3 Shibori methods, Mokume Shobori, Karage Shibori, and Makiage Shibori.
